Jeremy Paxman and Fiona Bruce have been named the newsreaders Britons would most like to share a nightcap with in a new poll.

Yellow Tail wine commissioned the survey after Sir Trevor McDonald's revelations about the excessive drinking culture in the ITV newsroom during the '70s.

Newsnight host Paxman topped the list for male newsreaders, with McDonald coming in second. Of the female broadcasters, Fiona Bruce was the number one choice, followed by Five's Natasha Kaplinsky.

Casella Wines marketing director Libby Nutt said: "It's no surprise Jeremy Paxman and Fiona Bruce came top as they're intellectually stimulating, interesting people - they'd certainly be able to tell us a thing or two."

Paxman earlier made it on to Esquire's annual best-dressed man list.
