Im sorry the Beckham one is classic. You dont get more plastic cry baby than that guy. It always makes me laugh when the English tabloids go on and on and on about Cristian Ronaldo, like he can do no right, but casually forget the homegrown blight that is Posh and Becks that they helped inflict on the world.

And seeing John Terry slip, I could relive that moment for ever! Looooooved it!!! I usually dont make a habit of gloating over the misfortunes of others, but I make an exception for Terry.

I think I watched those Pks every morning, for a week afterwards....what a great way to start your day! Laughing

As for the criticism, I keep having to remind some of you, ad nauseam, that Im not English and dont live there. I may have precise things that I am looking for online, to post for laughs, but since I dont run Google, I am limited by what pops up in a search.

Im not going to waste more than a couple of minutes looking for stuff.

SO SEEEEXY Razz

Best I could do. I cant access very many tabloid covers Crying or Very sad

the tabloids hate david beckham and have been making the ludicrous claim that he isn't a good player for 4 or 5 years now. they've truly loathed victoria beckham for over a decade. nobody other than chelsea fans and a tiny, tiny minority of England die-hard like John Terry in the slightest, and Flat Earth News is not a front page but is a brilliant, brilliant book about the state of both UK 'journalism' and global news agencies - but has maybe 3 or 4 pages to do with sport in the whole thing.

I wasnt going for a sports theme, just random stuff.

The tabloids may claim to "hate" the Beckhams now (I dont know if you ever trully hate one of your main cash cows) but the tabloids MADE these people. They are a total media creation and were then inflicted on the rest of us Evil or Very Mad

The whole country hates John Terry?

Maybe the English arent so bad after all. Laughing

I would say most of the country thinks John Terry is a bit of a dick at least. His ranting and raving at referees piss off pretty much all neutrals, and most people by now have realised the disconnect between BORN LEADER, MODEL PROFESSIONAL and a man who actually tries to steal the referee's cards from his hand before he can show it to a teammate.

Re: the Beckhams - the Spice Girls were obviously a media creation, if not a tabloid one. but Beckham? he was a very good young player that year Man Utd won the double, then he scored that half-way line goal the next august and got his England call-up and he started creeping into the showbiz parts of the paper. His path to fame wasn't that different to any other 'wonderkid' player, though he's become a 'brand' more persistently because of his courting of showbiz types. Ryan Giggs was insanely famous in a similar way in the early-mid 90s - was he a 'media creation'? Any young footballer who is generally thought of as 'really fucking good' builds up a lot of hype around of them, but it's largely due to their talent. Ronaldinho, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo - all global brands just like Beckham, none of them have much choice in the matter (which I presume is why the Beckhams and Ronaldos say 'fuck it' and embrace the attention)

No, but you was clearly braggin ("where is your teams") which is a bit odd when you support both teams in the CL final Rolling Eyes If I support all 20 teams in the PL for some reason (supporting the aryan race or something equally stupid) it would be a bit pointless to brag about "my" team winning wouldn't it?

Kudos Rooney then smug

1) Pictures of Cristiano not crying but with trophy. He doesnt play for the National team 24/7, does he? You can be happy for him and his win. It was a joke, hence the smiley. And yeah he missed in the final but he also scored some 42 goals, for a midfielder, all competitions....I think we can over look that miss. Glad it happened though, will help keep him grounded.

2)The Portuguese League is in shambles with the vast majority of the good players being sold out to Spanish, English and Italian teams. So I follow the players of the National Team in other leagues but that doesnt mean that I support every team they are on. I may want them to play well so they keep their form and stay injury free, is that wrong? Like, I feel bad that Ricardo Carvalho is stuck at Chelsea. Id sooner chop off a finger than see Michael Ballack or John Terry win anything.

And its not supporting the Aryan race, Imbecile. The Portuguese and Spanish are the same race as you, although we wouldnt like to admit it.
Its wanting to see the progression of talent from your peeps so that retarded pundits can once and for all shut up about Iberians being all style no substance. The Spanish Euro win was a step in the right direction.

What? Most of that has nothing to do with the post you are quoting.

i don't see the difference between supporting all iberians or supporting all aryans. You're not spanish, so why support them?

You try to wind up the english boarders with pics of Terry/Beckham, but unlike you they don't seem to give a shit about every dickhead they happen to share a passport with.

You sound more and more like a retarded nationalist straight out of the 18th century, which is why it is so fun to make fun of all things portuguese.

Nationalist, with an irrational fear of blacks and mentally ill people...charming.

Again, Aryans being a terminology adopted by fascists for the description of the white race and Iberia just being the name of a swap of land that does not exclude any of the people living on it......I see a big difference.

Iberians arent all white Rolling Eyes

The Spanish and Portuguese are all decendants of the same Celto-Iberian tribes. Like it or not, we are brothers of the same mother....we may have gone off in our own seperate directions, been influenced by other admixtures but we are still connected. We take the piss out of each other on a continual basis but thats our type of humor. I dont have to be "Spanish" to be happy that my "cousins" in Spain won the Euro. Its the kind of narrow minded cunt mentality that you are displaying in that paragraph that will ensure people keep killing each other over nationality and ancient history. By the way, I have a really nice Roy Keane Republic of Ireland Tshirt. Do I need to get the permission of the Irish Government to wear it....cause you know, I am not Irish. Rolling Eyes

And my reply does have to do with what you wrote. You said, by my logic, that I had supported both teams in the Champions League final and I did not. Just because I hope the players on my national team stay fit, dont break their legs and do well, regardless of what club they play in (SO THEY KEEP THEIR FORM AND SPOT ON THE NT) doesnt automaticaly mean I support all their clubs. I dont support Chelsea and wish Carvalho wasnt playing there. I think the club has been a complete waste of his time. I dont support Arsenal but that doesnt mean I hope Fabregas gets thrashed. I dont support Inter Milan but it doesnt mean, I hope it goes bust for Mourinho. Are you getting the picture?

And I have criticized Luis Figo, Mourinho and Helder Postiga many times on the old board so spare me, the nationalist tag. Theres a difference between intelligent discussion and retarded stereotypes based on someone else's culture. You think its funny, others may not.

Again, I repeat, as far as football goes, when I give a shout out to all Iberians, its because weve spent years having the piss taken out of us, in equal measure (most people dont differentiate between both countries) for playing a more technical style of football and not winning anything. Underachievers blah, blah, blah.....I didnt know it was a mortal sin to support and encourage the talent that is coming from your own neck of the woods. Thank you for letting me know.

Im going to take the stance of Jose Mourinho during his second season of Chelsea when he started ignoring the English press for taking everything he said out of context.

You are officially being ignored. Smile

How his hair looked on tv. No

And I dont know about Messi and Ronaldinho but Cristiano is very adament about never commenting on his private life. The tabloids speculate and write all kinds of idiocity but he in no way courts that attention. He'd rather be known for his work on the pitch and not for prat behavior off the pitch. Wether any one cares to give him the credit, he has built his fame by overcoming poverty, making it to a big club, his insane devotion to training, develloping his skill and trying to be a great footballer. He rakes in the money from endorsements and the like...... but the football is always N#1, no matter what.

look, what I'm saying is that it's more the tabloids and gossip mags leeching off the talent and attendant glamour of top footballers. Beckham is more at ease with the showbiz thing than most players but he's also renowned as a hard worker on the training ground and a model professional when it comes to team matters. The comparisons to other players are entirely valid: people who don't know the slightest thing about football know the name 'Cristiano Ronaldo' because he's also in the gossip mags every week, speculation flying about his private life, transfers etc. Doesn't make him any less of a great player, doesn't cancel out all the reports on how hard he works to improve his game - and it wouldn't change overnight if he married someone famous like Beckham? The Giggs example is entirely valid because he's largely avoided the limelight throughout his entire career, almost the the same extent as Paul Scholes - but from his debut up until about 1997 he was THE poster boy for the premier league and treated in exactly the same way the huge global stars are now (right down to WILL HE MOVE TO INTER-style baseless transfer frenzies). If certain sections of the media will obsess tediously over sportsmen whether they 'play the game' or not, what sense does it make to hold it against the player (based, almost inevitably, on the media's view of them) rather than the tabloids and gossip mags that hold no value?
