Describe your nightmares

Post  Miralice on Sun Jan 04, 2009 7:37 pm

I have nightmares.

Yeah, everyone has nightmares- like the one where you turn up for an exam and you haven’t
revised. Or that old chestnut where you turn up for a meeting in your pyjamas. Or you kiss the guy you hate, instead of the one you love. And the guy you love sees and walks away, and you notice him dropping a red rose he meant just for you as he leaves.

I don’t mean those nightmares.

I mean the gut-wrenching ones where you run and run and run from some unnamed evil. And the running makes you hurt in your chest but you keep running anyway because the thing you are running from is just so
goddam scary you just have to do it- run.

I think everyone has those dreams.

In my dreams I just run through that pain and I can’t feel that my legs hurt, just the tearing in my
chest that is my lungs expanding beyond plausibility to try and catch the oxygen that my muscles need to outrun the thing, the unnamed thing that is following just hot-breaths behind.

The thing about my dreams though is that, as I run in this blind panic, entirely unable to articulate or
at all describe the horror I run from, my arms seem to extend and then my hands meet the floor, they sort of push the floor behind me step by step as I race across bizarre landscapes and so my running becomes a four-legged thing. And suddenly I’m faster than I have ever been and I almost fly.

And so, I wonder, is this a basic instinct? Are my dreams a throw-back to some four-legged ancestor like a mouse, running from a cat? Is that all?

I had a counsellor once, years ago. She tried to get me to trace back to the first time I dreamt this thing. And the furthest I could remember was a dream of escaping church crèche when I was a toddler, which I thought might have been contemporary. And I know she suspected I was sexually abused and ran away, and that ever since I have been reliving this trauma without being able to confront it. I tried to entertain the idea. But I know this wasn’t so.

I think I just always have known, deeply and innately, how to run.

In my real life, when the worst happens, I just freeze. I let the horrible things happen and hope I won’t die if I can just play dead. There was a night not so long ago and I hoped that if I kept still I would be allowed to leave eventually. I was in so much pain and I was terrified for my fucking life.

And then I ran.

I ran through the night as fast as I could in stupid red high heels. And at one point I horribly-hilariously fell over because I tried to put my hands to the floor and push the ground away from me but frustratingly my arms wouldn’t grow.

I suppose my dreams are disempowering. Always running away. But in my dreams I always escape. Always live to experience more.

My hands push the ground away and I fly across the landscape and I survive.

The only ones I remember are recurring ones I had in hospital of me and my then girlfriend Alia up in the peaks where I broke my leg only one of us falls down the steep rocks I was standing on when it happened. Basically I either died or watched my girlfriend die every night for about a week. It was horrible! She had the same dreams as well which is a bit fucked up.

Last night I had a dream/nightmare kinda thing where I was walking through manchester and some guy, who I think is a main character in The Wire and has a bit-part in a Sopranos episode the other day, came up to me and shot me twice in the top of the head downwards. Then his girlfriend read a poem about how it was revenge for something or other. Then I proceded to walk around Manchester asking my friends how to get to the hospital, then I got a taxi to Gorton and wandered around for a bit and woke up. How odd.

The worst nightmare I remember was one of a gig where everything went wrong. The running away-dreams I used to have, too, but a friend of mine gave me a well-working dream catcher some years ago Smile

I once dreamt that some guy kept me hosted and his gang like killed my dad and my brothers they didn’t killed my mum yet. I somehow got free and started running to my house then I sort of like trip and knocked myself out, leading me having an bit of an memory lost and changing my name to Rebecca although I knew my name was really Nicole and also knew about my family being killed, I woke up in my dream at my grandmas I ask her if my mum was dead or alive, she didn’t answer me so I went and found out and it ended there.

There was another one where I was in a park with my friend and this guy was following us we kept looking back and he was still there so we ran and he caught up to us, and he stabbed me with an food knife, he stabbed me in the stomach and also at the hip, I really felt the pain of the knife going in me and also gasp with shock, I somehow got up and stabbed him too.

The only dream/nightmare I ever remember is one where all my teeth crumble and fall out, it's always really realistic that I have to check my teeth in the morning

weirdly most of my nightmares involve spiders, normally involves a big massive one on my pillow or walking across me, and then i wake up, but not fully, so i think there actually is a massive spider in the room.

but i like spiders

This is the same painful nightmare that I often do! In the cours of dream I don't fill pain, but all my teeth fall out...
Which is your sense?

if your teeth fall out in your dreams it means that you are worried about money in real life.

Teeth falling out is common and can mean a number of things, usually about change or fear of change.
