one summer i wrote 4-stanza haiku for each member of my family, here are a couple...



My mother's mother
used to snuff candles, with grace
The long arc pewter

bell hanging like a
flower, ring fits finger so
the word is neatly

her nose turned up
it was one power we had
over such weak life

one lesson that might
under glass become poignant
to watch something die


and...


and my blood is thin
it pours quick from my finger
brother, brother come

will you hold up yours
will you cut, cut but be fast
the time is here, once

to me you always
felt like a brother, but not
so sharply, so sharp

the time, finally
is here, and soon the blood falls
between years, brother
